Intel SSD

Hot Hardware Has an interesting review of the new solid state hard drives from Intel, the hard drives are based on the MLC solid state storage technology and have a MTBF of 1.2million hours (much like other SSDs that we have seen). Their has been a lot of bad press for SSDs recently, claiming that they are not as fast as HDD. Which is just not true, either way Intel seems to have come out with quite a speedy offering. Here are the specifications;

  • 80GB or 160GB
  • 10 Channel Parallel Architecture with 50nm MLC
  • 250MB/s Read
  • 70MB/s Write
  • 1.8 inch and 2.5 inch form factors

Solid State Disks

HotHardware.com has an interesting comparision of various solid state disk drive technologies, feature both the SLC and MLC technologies. The review pits OCZ, Super Talent and Mtron head to head in a battle of wits or transfer speed I forget which. Anyway It looks like the best value for money at this point in time is OCZ but they all still cost just a little too much for me but I have been waiting for the replace ment of standard HDD’s as they always seem to be the thing that goes first on all of my systems. Check it out here
