According to custom pc, AMD have lead presentation slides, which indicate that windows 7 could be released as early as 2009. This is rather an interesting turn of events as Windows Vista has only been around a few years and has still not been fully accepted by the majority of business. Is Microsoft attempting to salvage the this situation?

HP Linux

Business Week is reporting that HP might bee looking to make their own operating system, but their not starting from scratch. They seem to be toying with idea of creating their own GUI for the Linux operating system much like Apple did with the BSD OS. think of the possibilities for a second, a stable, easy to use and good looking operating system made by HP running on their own well priced hardware? I think this sounds like a great idea, peoples biggest complaint about macintosh and apple is the price of the hardware, if HP gets this right they could be onto a big winner. HP would need to make a big investment into this for it to be a winner but the rewards would easily make up for that if they do it well. Microsoft seems to have done damage to their reputation with their vista operating system but they are recovering so HP would need more than a token effort. If HP implemented their own operating system, as they have already hinted at with Quickplay, they’ll have total control over their PCs and their pricing. They would not have to give money to Microsoft, since they won’t have their OS. HP can make its printers, scanners, fax machines, desktops, notebooks and handhelds, work together in unison without having to continuously call MS for new licensing.

eee-pc.de has a great video up showing the XP Boot times on the WiBrain B1, now this is an awesome, if a slightly expensive device that should also ship in Ubuntu flavors in the coming months. It stars fairly quickly and looks quite fun to use once started, the specifications are;

Samsung Netbook

Samsung will be launching their own Samsung Netbook in October, it’s quite a nice looking device but they are going to have to work hard to stand out from the crowd as many of the Atom Netbooks tend to have very similar specifications. So what are the specs of this new netbook competitor? well read on;

  • 10.2 inch (1024 x 600 resolution) screen
  • Intel Atom 1.6Ghz
  • 1GB RAM
  • 80GB, 120GB or 160GB HDD
  • Bluetooth
  • WiFi B/G
  • 1.3 Mpix webcam
  • 3 x USB, VGA out and LAN
  • 3 in 1 card reader
  • 6 cell battery
  • weight 1.3kg

The machine is expected to cost around $550 so the Samsung Netbook is going to have a hard time standing out at that price. Many think that this Samsung Netbook has entered the market too late. No videos just yet.

UMPCPortal has a video review / Unboxing (Because seeing someone take packaging off of something is amazing) of Reon Digitals Ever Run Note. The Everun Note is the first Netbook/UMPC to feature an AMD or 64 bit for that matter processor. This Machine is powered by at 1200MHz AMD Turion processor, has touchscreen and is emptying peoples wallets with it’s $889 price tag, still it’s a nice machine and maybe, just maybe it could run Crysis;
