There is an interesting article on Wired about how Jack Szostak, a molecular biologist is building protocells from artificial molecules which are very close to fitting the requirements required to be considered a life form. The protocells can trap bits of nucleic acids and use them to replicate. They are built from a fatty acids and using power from either the sun or chemical reactions, they could form a self-replicating system that could be described as life, but unlike anything on earth now. This raises a few questions about creationism. Read the full article;

Register Hardware has acquired some details about the up and coming Commodore Netbook, it will have the model number UMMD 8010/F and be powered by a Via C7-M processor, like the hp mininote rather than an Atom processor that we see powering Netbooks such as the Acer Aspire One, MSI Wind and Dell Inspiron Mini Netbooks. Many People have criticised the processing power of the Via C7-M processor but to Commodores credit, this leaves open an Upgrade path to the new VIA Nano line of processors, which are said to be whipping the Atom. The Overall Specs and features of the system Look like this;
* VIA C7-M 1.6GHz Processor * 10 Inch Screen (1024x600) * 1GB RAM (upgradeable to 2GB) * B/G/N 802.11 WiFi * Bluetooth * 80GB Hard Disk Drive * Memory Card Slot (SD?) * Ethernet and USB ports |

Reports are appearing all over the web about the functionality of the new Google Chrome Browser and it’s been getting very good reviews, many people have said that the browser is fast and low on memory usage. Some people have had some problems with it though, problems such as vertical scrolling on laptops and the browsers in ability to execute Java (a client Side scripting language). These Issue will of course be solved with time but the biggest issue for now seems to be the inability to scroll back up web pages, Still I recommend that you give it a go;

Raon Digital’s Netbook, the everun note finally has a guide price. As we already know this UMPC is intended to be a high performance Netbook and the price of $875 shows that it’s not intended to be a budget machine. We now know the price of the Everun note because Raeon Digital has released a brochure which has full details of this Netbook. The machine is a lot cheaper than sonys offerings but still a lot more than most over netbooks

Bill set to fight apples get a mac ads
<quote>Those Apple "Get a Mac" ads have long been an annoyance to Microsoft and to Bill Gates in particular. No surprise as an emboldened Apple with rising market share has continued to ratchet up the venom with quips like, "fear of switching is the foundation of customer loyalty for PCs," found in its latest TV ad. Now Microsoft is fighting back. Microsoft's new $300 million campaign (one of Redmond's largest ever) is set to launch with a $10 million assist from "key celebrity pitchman" Jerry Seinfeld. Yes, Bill Gates will appear as well -- the once maligned, rich corporate nerd turned adorable, rich humanitarian nerd. The campaign is said to be based on the idea of "Windows, Not Walls," stressing the need to "break down barriers that prevent people and ideas from connecting." Something we think open-sourcers might have a laugh at. Anywho, the immediate goal of the campaign is to reverse the negative public perception of Vista and thus incorporates elements of the Mojave Experiment. While we have doubts about the latter, the combination of Seinfeld's pithy observations with a bit of that Bill Gates, self deprecating humor seen in "Bill's Last Day" could be a winning combination. Whether that turns the slow moving boat of public opinion remains to be seen.</quote> http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/21/microsoft-enlisting-gates-seinfeld-to-battle-get-a-mac-ads/ |
