Business Week is reporting that HP might bee looking to make their own operating system, but their not starting from scratch. They seem to be toying with idea of creating their own GUI for the Linux operating system much like Apple did with the BSD OS. think of the possibilities for a second, a stable, easy to use and good looking operating system made by HP running on their own well priced hardware? I think this sounds like a great idea, peoples biggest complaint about macintosh and apple is the price of the hardware, if HP gets this right they could be onto a big winner. HP would need to make a big investment into this for it to be a winner but the rewards would easily make up for that if they do it well. Microsoft seems to have done damage to their reputation with their vista operating system but they are recovering so HP would need more than a token effort. If HP implemented their own operating system, as they have already hinted at with Quickplay, they’ll have total control over their PCs and their pricing. They would not have to give money to Microsoft, since they won’t have their OS. HP can make its printers, scanners, fax machines, desktops, notebooks and handhelds, work together in unison without having to continuously call MS for new licensing.
