Wow now thats cheap, this little machine is based on an ARM processor. It’s not that bad of a device. It has a word processor, spreadsheets, e-mail, instant messaging and all the basics. Install Opera on there and you even get a half way decent browser experience. It also runs on Windows CE which gives the option of a lot of other extra applications such as; Google maps, Putty and yes even Doom. The major disadvantage that it has is the 7 inch 480 x 272 resolution display, but I still think this could make an awesome emulator machine.

Acer Aspire One OS X

Well if you are interested in installing OS X on the acer aspire one, you aren’t the first. It has already been done and you can view The boot times and application start time in the following video. It seems that it actually runs quite well with a nice boot time for an operating system not supposed to be run on non mac hardware.

Toshiba Netbook

Toshiba has just entered the Netbook market with it’s new offering, the yet to be named Toshiba Netbook. As you would have come to expect by now this Netbook does not differ much from offerings that other companies have put out, we can expect the specifications to be as follows;

  • 8.90 inch (1024 x 600 resolution) screen
  • Intel 1.6Ghz Atom (single core)
  • Windows XP Home
  • 1GB RAM
  • 120GB HDD or SSD (capacity unknown 8GB?)
  • LAN, Wifi, 3 x USB and SD slot

eee-pc.de has a great video up showing the XP Boot times on the WiBrain B1, now this is an awesome, if a slightly expensive device that should also ship in Ubuntu flavors in the coming months. It stars fairly quickly and looks quite fun to use once started, the specifications are;

  • Windows XP
  • 512MB or 1GB Ram
  • Via C7M 1200MHz Processor
  • 30GB or 60GB HDD
  • Wireless
  • Bluetooth (in the windows version)

Creative Zen Vision

Sometime earlier this year Creative filed for a patent on a rather interesting looking device. Now the above image is just a drunk artists impression of the device (If I could ever be described as an artist?). Anything But iPod reckons that it could be an indication of the forth coming Zen Vision, that’s a high definition video player, which can b e hooked up to your high def TV. The patent which has only recently beeen published is available;

Samsung Netbook

Samsung will be launching their own Samsung Netbook in October, it’s quite a nice looking device but they are going to have to work hard to stand out from the crowd as many of the Atom Netbooks tend to have very similar specifications. So what are the specs of this new netbook competitor? well read on;

  • 10.2 inch (1024 x 600 resolution) screen
  • Intel Atom 1.6Ghz
  • 1GB RAM
  • 80GB, 120GB or 160GB HDD
  • Bluetooth
  • WiFi B/G
  • 1.3 Mpix webcam
  • 3 x USB, VGA out and LAN
  • 3 in 1 card reader
  • 6 cell battery
  • weight 1.3kg

The machine is expected to cost around $550 so the Samsung Netbook is going to have a hard time standing out at that price. Many think that this Samsung Netbook has entered the market too late. No videos just yet.

Toshiba Mini HDD

Toshiba have recently introduced two new series of 1.8 inch hard drives. The MLxx31GAL series, which has a 120GB single platter model and the 240GB Dual Platter MK2431GAH series. Both devices use the parallel ATA (PATA) interface and implement the forth generation of the perpendicular magnetic recording technology that Toshiba it’s self introduced.

Hadron Collider

Well maybe that headline is a bit sensational and no I don’t think this machine will end all life as we know it but today they will begin commissioning the Hadron Collider. The Hadron Collider is the largest particle accelerator ever created and many people seem to have the unfounded belief that the machine will tear apart the very fabric of the universe. Some of these people feel so strongly about this that they have actually threaded the engineers and scientists behind the Hadron Collider project. So what are they doing today, well from what I understand they are doing a clockwise rotation test on one of the two parts of the machine, so basically they have tested out all the circuits and are now beginning the live testing phase of commissioning this colossal machine.
